KANO-Nigeria-Despite the Kano political turmoil in recent times, the all inclusive advisory Committee of Kano State newly equipped Ultra-Modern Mega Specialist hospitals of Muhammadu Buhari and Pediatric Zoo Road; held another attentive meeting on Tuesday 23rd January 2018 at the Board Room of Muhammadu Buhari Specialist Hospital (Giginyu).
These two hospitals are currently getting tough attention to actualize the aim for yielding results from such gigantic investments by the Kano State Governor Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje OFR.
Dr Aminu Magashi Garba who is the committee Chairman led the meeting with the participation of other members like the Commissioner of Health Dr Kabir I. Getso, heads of hospitals, boards and other government agencies, Civil Society Organization (CSO) and Aminu Kano Teaching Hospitals (AKHT) representative members.
The aim of the meeting according to the Chairman Dr Magashi was due to Governor Ganduje constant concern for the investment made and the money currently spending managing the equipment installed, while services are not yet take off. He (governor) tasks the committee to fast track the processes and considered it urgent and necessary for service provisions.
Important meeting resolutions deliberated to facilitate this urgent take off are professionally and widely discussed to also consider the general public concerns concerning the Public Private Partnership (PPP) focused on managing these two titans hospitals.
One key aspect of the resolution according to the chair “is to place adverts in three (3) national daily newspapers calling for “Pre-Qualification Expression of Interest” for interested private firms wishing to partner with government under PPP” He said.
Dr Magsahi further added “The committee will support the State House of Assembly to commence deliberations on the executive bill to develop the legal framework of the Kano State Ultra-Modern Specialist Hospitals Board by supporting a retreat for its Legal Drafting Standing Committee.
Also the committee will appear before it to respond to questions and clarify any issues they might have” further elucidated.
The commissioner of health Dr Kabir I. Getso reiterated the commitment of the state government and his Excellency Dr Ganduje on the matter of these hospitals.
In his comments the commissioner emphasized that “The council (State House of Assembly) members were happy about the bill and his Excellency the executive governor is ready to give all support required”.
While discussing about the challenges from ongoing narratives Dr Getso shows concern on the ongoing mischief from some ill-informed and enemies of State progress.
He spoke “currently the hospitals are facing some mischiefs for political reasons that include someone claiming having an evidence of equipment been removed and moved out of the hospitals after the president Muhammadu Buhari visit”.
The commissioner further added “the Public needs to be enlightened that these specialists Hospitals are not meant to provide low standard services and we are going to be on air to clarify further” He detailed.
While commenting how the common man can benefit from such high level quality of care from the state of arts equipment and services; the honorable commissioner confirmed that there are measures already in to take care of under supported.
“The State Contributory HealthCare Scheme and Kano State Trust Fund (KETHFUND) will support the cost of the care offered to the vulnerable and poor groups in the society as outlines and in accordance with the law that established them”.
Updated of the Garki Abuja PPP learning visit by the 5-member committee led by the Dr Magashi (Chair) delivered. The committee received various valuable documents that include MOU, Operational Manual, guidelines and PPP policy of the federal ministry of Health etc.
Dr Shehi Ali emphasized that the visit give them additional confidence that PPP of these mega hospital is Promising. He said “the visit to Garki Hospitals proved that this two Mega Hospitals can be managed very effectively, because unlike Garki hospitals, the two Mega specialist Hospitals in Kano building constructed and equipped earlier”.
Dr Aminu Magashi Garba as chair further explained, “There are many people and organizations who wants to partner on these two mega hospitals from Nigeria and across the world. But due process must be followed from expression of interest to selection of the standard company that will partner with the government”.
Similarly, in the committee chair Dr Magashi Social media updates and comment received; it is clearly shows low level of knowledge and or misinformation displayed by some people amidst many praising comments. This also informed the committee to do more on media and stakeholders engagements.
Conclusively, as the operation of these two ultra modern state of arts hospitals is bound to kick start with accountable processes and legal backing supports; there is assurance of sooner take up of services. These hospitals once started will serve as hub for training and research for health students and professional experts.
The hospitals will surely be another giant source for income generation to the state; because no place in Nigeria with such medical hub and great plans to make it globally recognized with standard quality of care services to be provided. But all hands must be on deck to support the sustainable plans for quality services. In the long run Kano might serve as Medical Tourist site not only for Nigeria but also globally.
